Community Rules and Privacy Guidelines
Thank you for being a part of CPSE Community Connect. This is your space to interact and network with others, share information, and ask questions. To ensure the best possible experience for all, we have established some basic guidelines for participation. Please take a few moments to read through them.
By using the community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and etiquette, as well as our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, please email the community coordinator at community@cpse.org
To preserve a community built on continuous improvement that encourages fair use of resources and civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to delete posts or comments that violate the Community Guidelines. Individuals who repeatedly violate the Community Guidelines may be suspended or removed from the community.
Community Guidelines
1. Discussion Purpose – discussions and comments are meant to stimulate conversation, not create contention. Every post should make a positive contribution and exchange best practices. Contradictory opinions should be thoughtful and respectful, engaging in conversation, not correction.
Ask questions to better understand content before responding as applicable. Do not respond only with the intention to contradict or expose impropriety. Focus on educating and sharing with the intent to help all to continuously improve.
2. Civility – All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything you would not want the world to see or what you would not want anyone to know came from you. Visit the Designee Code of Conduct for more guidance.
3. Posting Etiquette – Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate discussions or libraries. Do not spam several discussions or libraries with the same message.
State the topic of your comment in the subject line; keep it concise, accurate and specific. Stay on topic by providing relevant, insightful information or asking important questions.
4. Transparency - Transparency is essential in gaining trust in online relationships; therefore, be clear who you are and who you work for when posting. This includes using your real name, affiliation and location in your signature tag on all messages, and a profile picture of your likeness wherever possible.
5. Complaints - Venting and blowing off steam are appropriate, but use this time and interactions to constructively adapt to obstacles and hardships rather than dwelling on negativity.
6. Interacting with CPSE - Use the Resources & Help community for CPSE-specific questions and resources and to engage with CPSE staff when applicable using the “Ask a Question” page.
7. Products and Commercial Recommendations – use caution when discussing vendors or commercial products. Respect the community’s purpose by not using it as a marketing channel or submitting content relating to promotional offers or sales materials.
Information posted is available for all community members, including business partners where applicable. Vendor or product recommendations posted should not be considered an endorsement by CPSE.
8. See Something, Say Something – help look after your community. There is a permanent record of posts. If you notice content that does not abide by these guidelines, or you have a complaint, please report it to community@cpse.org.
Additional Etiquette by Role
1. Vendors and Organizational Partners – You may recommend trainings, materials, or other products from your current organization provided they are offered at no cost. Posting about your organization's paid materials violates the Community Guidelines.
2. CPSE Board and Commission Members – CPSE encourages you to engage as a Fire Chief of an Accredited Agency and/or Designee first, not as a Board or Commission member. This space exists first and foremost to engage and network.
